Disney is set to release “Moana 2“, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 animated hit Moana, on November 27, 2024. The story takes place three years after the events of the first film, reuniting Moana and Maui as they embark on a daring new voyage into the far seas of Oceania. This adventure introduces Moana’s younger sister, Simea, raising the stakes for Moana’s journey. The crew also includes new and quirky wayfinding allies, promising fresh dynamics and challenges.

Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, the film will feature music from Grammy winners Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa‘i, and returning composer Mark Mancina. Notably, Auli‘i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively​

Auli’i had previously stated in an interview that she would be happy to portray Moana in a live-action version. The interview took place in March of 2020. “The movie was released when I was sixteen years old, and I am currently 19 years old. In the cast, Rachel House played the role of Tala, Temuera Morrison played the role of Sui, Jermaine Clement played the role of Tomatoa, Nicole Scherzinger played the role of Sina, and Alan Tudyk played the role of Heihei. John Musker and Ron Clements directed the animated film, but the studio has not yet revealed the director of the feature film adaptation.
